What People Are Saying
"I was little bit late to arrange a group course but with another couple friends we arranged the course with Anna. It was 12hours private birth course which is definitely worth the time and money. She is well prepared and really eager to help you with everything. She has experience/knowledge from other countries than the Netherlands, that’s also something nice to have an idea. It’s a bit hard to find suitable English speaking birth course here but imo Anna is really a good option to check."

When you're not used to newborns, it can feel really daunting, especially on broken sleep. This class helps you understand what to expect from your new baby, what's normal and what might need a closer look, so you have the confidence and foundation to parent confidently from day one.

Birth Doula FAQs
-
Midwives and doctors are responsible for the medical care of you and your baby during pregnancy and birth. A birth doula focuses on continuous emotional support, comfort techniques, and helping you understand your options so you can make informed decisions during labor.
-
Yes! Many couples find that having a doula actually helps partners feel more confident and involved. A doula can guide partners in comfort measures, suggest positions, and provide reassurance so partners can focus on supporting you rather than worrying about what to do next.
-
Most families hire a birth doula sometime during the second trimester, but it’s never too early to start exploring your options. Hiring a doula earlier in pregnancy allows more time to build a relationship and prepare together for your birth.
-
Yes. Birth doulas can support families in home births, birth centers, and hospital births. Doula support focuses on comfort measures, advocacy, and emotional support regardless of where you plan to give birth.
-
A birth doula may use a variety of comfort techniques during labor, including:
breathing techniques
labor positions and movement
massage and counterpressure
relaxation techniques
emotional reassurance and encouragement
These techniques can help make labor more manageable and help you feel supported throughout the process.
Postpartum Doula Support
Wrapped in support so you can focus on recovering from birth, bonding with your baby, and finding your own new rhythm.
As an expat, when you begin to learn about the Dutch maternity care system, you might think you'll figure it all out during that first week with the help of the kraamzorg nurse. But when she leaves and you don't have family around to help, it can feel suddenly very quiet. As your postpartum doula, I bring both a clinical nursing background and a deep respect for traditional postpartum practices, the ones rooted in cultures that know how to protect this tender time. And those hundreds of questions that come up in the first weeks of parenthood? I'm here for those too.

Holistic Recovery Rituals
❋ Yoni steam — A gentle vaginal steam using warming herbs. Quiet, relaxing, and often a space to process your birth and whatever feelings come with it.
❋ Belly binding — Physical support as your body finds its way back to itself, and it can feel like a hug too.
❋ Sitz bath — A herbal soak to support perineal healing and reduce swelling. I'll guide you through it, or leave you a herb mix to use in your own time.
❋ Massage — Gentle, caring touch, with presence and comfort for your body and your nervous system.
What People Are Saying
“Being an expat in Eindhoven with no family support, having Anna Latham by my side in the early postpartum days was a true blessing. She prepared very nutritious meals that helped me recover well, supported me through my breastfeeding journey with so much patience, and gave me the care and confidence I needed as a new mom. I’m so grateful for her help and would highly recommend her to any new parent.”

What Postpartum Support Actually Looks Like
A typical postpartum visit
Before I Arrive
I start cooking nourishing meals with your specific needs and preferences in mind.
On Arrival
I unpack the food I've made and, if the family hasn't come downstairs yet, tidy the kitchen quietly while I wait.
Connecting First
Tea, a snack, and a real check-in with mum or dad. How was the night? How's feeding going? How is she recovering?
Making a Loose Plan
Together we sketch out the visit: breastfeeding support, a bit of housework, maybe a sitz bath, massage, or belly binding if there's time.
Following What the Day Needs
Sometimes the plan holds. Sometimes I just sit with her while she feeds the baby, talking through what's typical for this stage.
Before I Leave
I make sure the family feels settled, and sometimes that means staying a little longer.

Postpartum Doula FAQs
-
Kraamzorg provides medical postpartum care for the first week after birth, including health checks for mother and baby. A postpartum doula offers non-medical support focused on helping parents adjust to life with a newborn, often continuing support after kraamzorg has finished.
-
Many families book postpartum doula care during pregnancy to ensure availability. Support can begin right after birth, after kraamzorg ends, or anytime during the first few months as you adjust to life with your baby.
-
Postpartum doula care may include:
guidance with newborn care and feeding
breastfeeding support
emotional support for parents
light household help
preparing simple nourishing meals
helping you rest while someone experienced cares for your baby
The goal is to help your family feel confident and supported during the fourth trimester.
-
Every family is different. Some families book support for a few sessions after kraamzorg ends, while others choose weekly visits for several weeks or months to ease the transition into parenthood.
-
Postpartum doula support is usually considered non-medical care and is not covered by basic health insurance. Some supplementary insurance plans may reimburse part of the cost, so it’s worth checking with your provider.
