Postpartum Doula Care

postpartum, mother, moeder, baby

The early weeks after birth are tender and transformative. Alongside joy, they often bring exhaustion, questions, and the need for extra hands. Postpartum doula care is about wrapping you in support so you can heal, bond, and grow into your new rhythm.

What postpartum support looks like

Holistic care & recovery

Birth changes everything — including your body. Alongside the practical support, I offer a range of gentle, body-centred care to help you heal and feel at home in yourself again.

Nourishing meals Food is medicine in the postpartum period. I prepare fresh, deeply nourishing meals such as soups, stews, congees, and porridges that are drawn from postpartum-specific traditions and tailored to your family's tastes. Warming, easily digestible, and made with recovery in mind.

Massage Gentle postpartum massage to ease tension, support circulation, and give your body the care it has earned.

Belly binding A traditional practice used across many cultures to support abdominal recovery, provide physical comfort, and help you feel held after birth.

Sitz baths & yoni steaming Gentle herbal rituals to support perineal healing, ease discomfort, and encourage your body's natural recovery.

Closing ritual (available on request) A beautiful, intentional ceremony to mark your transition into motherhood — honouring what your body has done and gently closing the chapter of birth. Many mothers find it a meaningful moment of acknowledgement and emotional integration.

My approach

As a US-trained registered nurse and birthworker, I bring both clinical knowledge and a deep respect for the wisdom of traditional postpartum practices. My approach blends practical, hands-on support with gentle, body-centred care because true recovery happens when you feel nourished, held, and seen. I'm also a resource for the hundreds of questions that arise in those first weeks, about your baby, your body, and navigating life with a newborn in the Netherlands, answered honestly, in plain language, as they come up.

Postpartum Doula FAQs

  • Postpartum doula care may include: evidence-based guidance on newborn care, feeding, safe sleep, and postpartum recovery; breastfeeding support; emotional support for the whole family; freshly prepared, nourishing meals; holistic recovery care including massage, belly binding, sitz baths, and yoni steaming; light household help; and helping you rest while someone experienced cares for your baby. The goal is to help your family feel truly supported — practically, emotionally, and physically — through the fourth trimester.

  • Kraamzorg provides medical postpartum care for the first week after birth, including health checks for mother and baby. A postpartum doula offers non-medical support focused on helping parents adjust to life with a newborn, often continuing support after kraamzorg has finished.

  • Many families book postpartum doula care during pregnancy to ensure availability. Support can begin right after birth, after kraamzorg ends, or anytime during the first few months as you adjust to life with your baby.
