Hi, I’m Anna Latham!
Bachelor of Science Nursing (University of Colorado Anschutz)
Registered Nurse (Maryland, USA)
Childbirth Educator (ICEA)
Lactation Counselor (pending, CBI)
Birth Doula (pending, CBI)
My interest in birth began during my maternity rotation in nursing school, where witnessing the incredible capabilities of the female body ignited my passion. After nursing school, I combined this love for pregnancy and birth with public health, working as a home visiting nurse in Baltimore for low-income, first-time, teenage mothers with the Nurse Family Partnership program. Throughout their pregnancies and the first two years of their child's life, I provided guidance on pregnancy, labor, birth, health, and parenting. When I left the US, I completed my certification as a childbirth educator with ICEA, and I taught private and small group classes to expat families in Việt Nam. I also began my lactation counselor training (CBI) and helped dozens of clients meet their breastfeeding goals. Once I moved to the Netherlands, I knew I needed to fulfill my urge to be present in the birthing space, supporting birthing families in a new way. Thus I began my birth doula training (CBI).
My experiences have allowed me to share my enthusiasm for the remarkable ability of women to grow, birth, and nourish a human with their own bodies. Becoming pregnant myself in the US, I tapped into my own superpower, and the memory of the power within my body during the birth of my oldest still inspires me. While living in Vietnam, I became pregnant with my youngest, but this time I had to navigate an unfamiliar healthcare system during the COVID pandemic. Even with my professional background, I felt isolated and unsupported. I don’t want other expats to have the same experience.
Each of my birthing experiences have fueled my dedication to birth work and ignited a passion to support expat families or who may need extra support. I am here to help you maneuver and embrace your incredible superpower as a birthing person. Regardless of the type of birth you choose, let’s make it an empowering experience.
